The British Viceroy, Lord Curzon found the Naldehra hills near Shimla so beautiful that he spent the last days of his rule there. Lord Curzon often used to go there for camping. When Lord Curzon geographically studied the golf course site of Naldehra which was surrounded by dense cedars, he realized that a good golf course could be built there.
Lord Curzon at that time suggested his government to build a golf course there. Following this suggestion, the golf course came up in Naldehra in 1905, which is now considered to be one of the oldest golf courses in the country.
Lord Curzon was so impressed by Naldehra’s beauty that he named his third daughter, Alexandra Naldehra. As such, Naldehra is named after the local deity here, Nal Dev. Starting with a nine-hole course, it currently has eighteen holes, which is proposed to be extended further.
Naldehra, which falls on the Tattapani to Shimla route via Mashobra, has been recognized all over the country and abroad because of this golf course. Tourists come here throughout the year to admire the beauty around it.
Naldehra, about 23 km from Shimla, is completely full of tourists in summer. The view of the dense forest and the Himalayan peaks is enchanting.
Seeing the influx of tourists here, a large number of hotels and other businesses have also been established. Currently, this golf course is under the Tourism Development Corporation. This 4285-yard golf course has sixteen greens and eighteen tees. The golf course is open year-round and you can enjoy golf here at a very low fee.
Located at an altitude of 2115 meters above sea level, Naldehra also gets snow during winter, due to which tourists visit it in large numbers. Due to its proximity to Shimla, locals also visit the place on holidays. No one can manage to escape the beauty of this place.
Lord Curzon may have found this place for some specific reason, but today Naldehra is known all over the world for its unique golf course.
