In a groundbreaking move, the Madhya Pradesh Tourism Development Corporation (MPTDC) is entrusting Hotel Amaltas in Pachmarhi to an all-women management team. This initiative aims to empower women and promote safe tourism practices.

The project, developed in collaboration with the women’s wing of the United Nations, features a team of 23 to 24 women who have undergone extensive training. It is the first hotel in India to be managed entirely by women, setting a new standard in the tourism industry.

This effort reflects a growing global trend towards greater gender inclusivity. Women in leadership roles are still rare in many industries, including tourism. By handing over Hotel Amaltas to an all-women team, Madhya Pradesh is sending a strong message about the potential for women to excel in positions traditionally dominated by men.

Officials believe that the success of the Pachmarhi project could inspire similar initiatives across the state, potentially leading to more employment opportunities for women in tourism. This approach could also make Madhya Pradesh a more attractive destination for female travelers seeking safe and welcoming experiences.

Principal Secretary (Tourism) Sheo Shekhar Shukla stated that MP tourism is focused on various social goals. He said that Amaltas Hotel in Pachmarhi, run by MPSTDC, will be the first property managed exclusively by women, marking a step forward in promoting Madhya Pradesh as a safe state for women.

Beyond Pachmarhi, Madhya Pradesh Tourism is making strides in other areas to support female employment. In Madhai, within the Satpura Tiger Reserve, women are now employed as guides and driving safari vehicles, challenging traditional gender roles and expanding opportunities for women in the tourism sector

Approximately 40 percent of foreign visitors to Madhya Pradesh are women, highlighting the growing demand for destinations that prioritize safety and welcoming environments. By entrusting Hotel Amaltas to a women team, the state is addressing this demand while also breaking traditional gender roles in the hospitality sector.
