In December 2024, Tawang, Arunachal Pradesh, will be the epicenter of adventure tourism as it hosts the 16th Annual Adventure Convention of the Adventure Tour Operators Association of India (ATOAI). This six-day event, scheduled from December 3 to 8, will bring together adventure tourism professionals from across the country to explore and highlight the potential of Arunachal Pradesh as a leading adventure destination.

Chief Minister Pema Khandu expressed confidence in Arunachal as a prime adventure tourism hub. He noted that the convention could uncover opportunities that would lead to economic growth and increased recognition on the global stage.

Tourism Minister P.D. Sona echoed this optimism, emphasizing the role of adventure tourism in promoting economic development while preserving the natural and cultural heritage of the region. He pointed out the importance of sustainable tourism practices, which aim to position Arunachal as a key player in the broader adventure tourism landscape in India.

The convention will feature a packed schedule of sessions, panel discussions, and awards recognizing excellence in the industry. Leaders from various sectors will collaborate with local operators to develop sustainable tourism models for Arunachal and beyond. Attendees will also have opportunities to participate in familiarization (FAM) trips to explore the breathtaking and largely untouched terrains of the state.

A specialized training program for adventure guides will precede the convention in Itanagar, led by experts to improve skills and professionalism in the adventure tourism sector. ATOAI will present a roadmap for future growth and investment opportunities in Arunachal Pradesh during the event.

Ajeet Bajaj, President of ATOAI, reaffirmed the commitment to advancing responsible adventure tourism in India, with Arunachal playing a central role. “The state offers unmatched natural beauty and adventure opportunities, presenting a chance to promote sustainable tourism that benefits local communities,” he stated.
