Dharamshala: Northern Railways will resume train services between Nurpur Road and Paprola from 14 December, following a successful trial run. The narrow gauge track had been out of use since July 2023 due to damage from heavy rainfall and landslides.
After months of repairs, full operations will be reinstated. Previously, limited operations were resumed on September 26 between Kangra and Paprola (Baijnath), and on October 18 between Kangra and Jogindernagar.
This restoration will be crucial for the residents of more than 30 remote villages between Guler and Jawali, many of whom had been forced to rely on expensive road transport, with bus fares up to six times the price of a train ticket.

The return of rail service offers an affordable alternative, providing much-needed relief to locals who have long advocated for the track’s repair.
The disruption, caused by landslides and debris from a nearby four-lane highway construction, suspended the service for several months. A successful trial run between Nurpur Road and Koparlahar on November 27 confirmed the readiness for full service.
This week, the Ferozepur Division of Northern Railways conducted a test run with a seven-coach train, ensuring the track could accommodate restored operations. Under the new timetable, starting 14 December, two trains will operate daily in each direction between Nurpur Road and Paprola.
