Incorporated in 1855 by Edward Dyer who moved from England to set up the first brewery in India at Kasauli, Mohan Meakin Brewery which was later shifted to Solan serves as the Asia’s oldest foundation and still operational Whisky producing distillery. The brewery also launched Asia’s first beer called “Lion” which was much in demand among the British administrators to quench the thirst.
Copper pot stills are used even today in the process of distillation. Old Monk Rum, Golden Eagle Doctor’s Brandy, Colonel’s Special and Diplomat Deluxe are among the most popular products. The Royal Institute of Public Health & Hygiene, London has certified it as a product of high quality conforming to international standards.
The brewery depicts the efficiency of the British Engineering which is functioning smoothly till date. Same can be witnessed by huge water WTP-Clarifiers, distillation tanks and old steam engine placed near the entrance of the brewery. Brewery Management houses a canteen that offers free meals to army personnel on duty carrying their valid identity proofs.
