Chamba: The famous eight-day long international Minjar fair of Chamba concluded with much fanfare and religious fervour on Sunday with concluding ceremony procession that started from Akhand Chandi Palace to Manjri Garden on the bank of Ravi river to immerse the Minjar (golden tassel) in a traditional manner in the river. Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur led the procession.
Wife of the Chief Minister Dr. Sadhna Thakur, Food and Civil Supplies Minister Kishan Kapoor, MLAs Pawan Nayyar, Jia Lal, Vikram Jaryal, Rakesh Pathania and Mulkh Raj Premi, BJP District President DS Thakur, and other prominent leaders of the district accompanied the Chief Minister in the procession. They were followed by palanquins of local deities, cultural troupes, police and home guard jawans besides people from different walks of the life.
Earlier, the Chief Minister witnessed wrestling bouts at the historic Chaugan and distributed prizes to the winners. Wrestler Sukhpal Singh won the bout. He also performed Bhoomi Pujan of widening and strengthening of Chamba-Khajjiar road to be completed at a cost of Rs 14.84 crore under CRF. The total length of this road would be 19 kms. Later, in the evening a colourful cultural programme was held at Chamba Chaugan. The Chief Minister released Minjar Souvenir brought out by the Mela Organising Committee on this occasion.
