Delhi: International flight operations are expected to return to normal soon, Civil Aviation Secretary Rajiv Bansal said on Wednesday. India had suspended international passenger flights in March last year amid the coronavirus pandemic. Earlier, the government had allowed domestic flights to carry passengers at full capacity last month.
Normalisation of international flights is expected “very soon” and by the end of this year, said Bansal. Currently, India has air bubble arrangements with more than 25 countries for operating international flights.
He said that while the government was keen for things to return to normal, it would take measures to guard against a renewed wave of coronavirus infections, particularly since several major European nations have recorded frightening surge in daily new cases.
