To boost the tourism in the city, Shimla got its first ropeway after a long wait of 10 years when Chief Minister “Sh. Virbhadra Singh” inaugurated the project. Mall road has been successfully linked to Jakhoo Temple (8000 feet) the highest point in the vicinity of the city.

Constructed by Jagson International Ltd, this aerial rope-way is adding to new experience in Shimla for the tourists. The distance of 8 Km has been concentrated to 5 minutes to reach the Jakhoo temple from the ridge. However the commencement of the ropeway has incurred the losses to the local taxi operators.

Each cable car weighs about 480 kg. The price for two way journey is Rs 550 per person and one way Rs 300 for the adults. While for children it will cost Rs 450 two way and Rs 250 for one way trip. The ropeway takes approx. 6 persons in one ride.

The private company operating the ropeway is required to pay a dividend of Rs 57 Lakh to the state government for the first year. Thereafter 15% of the total revenue has to be given to the State Government on the yearly basis.
