Would you believe if we ever told you that amidst the luscious green pastures of Summer Hill (one of Shimla’s Seven Hill Attractions) lies an Art Gallery with an incredibly opulent collection of 1500 works comprising of paintings, sculptures, drawings, sketches and metal work?
And, would it tease your imagination if we even told you that hemmed in by the pine and deodar laden slopes with dotted quaint residences around, you can spot an Art Residency that boasts of a rare painting and belongings of Rabindranath Tagore? And, to nudge your curiosity even further, we might add that the Gallery is a proud possessor of many prized paintings of prominent disciples of the highly influential style of Indian painting, Bengal School of Art. It even includes the fascinating collection of works by Shimla-based artist and sculptor Sanat Chatterjee whose magnum opus, a watercolor on a 100 feet x 11 feet silk scroll, the longest painting on silk was recorded in the Guinness Book of World Records! Sounds too good to be true, right? Well, come by and witness the grandeur of art in its simplest form! Come and take home memories that you will cherish forever!
