Mumbai: Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport in Mumbai will suspend all flight operations for six hours on November 20, from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., as part of its scheduled annual post-monsoon runway maintenance. During this period, both the primary runway 09/27 and the secondary runway 14/32 will be inactive to allow for comprehensive inspections and repairs.

The airport, managed by Adani Group and the Airports Authority of India, handles nearly 950 flights daily, making it the second busiest airport in India after Indira Gandhi International Airport in Delhi.

Mumbai International Airport Ltd issued a Notice to Airmen in advance, giving airlines and operational stakeholders time to adjust flight schedules and coordinate ground and air operations efficiently.

Maintenance activities will cover a range of technical and operational tasks. Teams will conduct detailed inspections of runway surfaces, perform necessary repairs, and evaluate lighting systems, runway markings, and drainage infrastructure.

The work, carried out every year after the monsoon season, is intended to maintain operational safety and ensure uninterrupted flight services for the remainder of the year.

Airport officials emphasized that preemptive communication with airlines and related agencies is intended to reduce disruption for passengers and support coordinated planning during the temporary suspension.

Travellers and carriers have been advised to take the six-hour closure into account and adjust travel and operational schedules as needed.
