Shaheed Bhagat Singh International Airport in Chandigarh will remain closed for civil flight operations from 1 a.m. on October 26 to 11.59 p.m. on November 7 for runway repair work, the Indian Air Force said in a Notice to Airmen (NOTAM). During the closure, only rotary wing aircraft will be permitted to operate with prior approval, the notice added.

The airport administration said the closure will accommodate polymer modifier emulsion (PME) work on the runway. Installation of a Korean-made CAT-ILS-I (Instrument Landing System) will also take place to support operations in low visibility conditions.

Ajay Kumar, Chief Executive Officer of Chandigarh International Airport Limited (CHIL), said, “NOTAM has been issued for closure from October 26 to November 7. A fresh NOTAM will mark resumption of operations.”

Earlier this year, the airport was temporarily closed following a NOTAM issued amid heightened tensions with Pakistan.

The airport handles more than 50 flights daily and connects the tricity region to 21 destinations, including 19 domestic locations and two international points, Dubai and Abu Dhabi. It carries approximately 10,000 passengers daily.

Passengers are advised to make alternative travel arrangements during the closure.
